ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — NBA champion Kyrie Irving drew thousands of basketball fans in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 30, as Indonesia hosted a major stop on his 2026 World Tour: The Return, underscoring the country’s emergence as one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic basketball markets.

Held at City Hall, Pondok Indah Mall 3, the event brought together basketball enthusiasts, youth athletes, and local communities for fan engagement sessions, coaching clinics, and exhibition games.

Beyond celebrating one of the NBA’s biggest stars, the tour highlighted Indonesia’s growing prominence in Asia’s evolving basketball ecosystem.

Jakarta is one of several international destinations on Irving’s global tour, following stops in Shanghai, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Las Vegas, New Jersey, and Macau. Indonesia’s inclusion reflects the country’s expanding basketball fan base and its increasing importance to global sports brands seeking opportunities across Southeast Asia.

During the event, Irving shared reflections on his professional journey, leadership, and the values that have shaped his career, encouraging young athletes to pursue excellence through discipline, resilience, and continuous self-improvement.

“I feel truly honored to be here with my fans in Jakarta. I want to thank everyone for the incredible welcome I’ve received since arriving in Indonesia,” Irving said.

The program also featured a 3-on-3 exhibition game between leading Indonesian players and a team from San Beda University of the Philippines, showcasing regional sporting exchange and reinforcing basketball ties across Southeast Asia.

Young Indonesian players participated in coaching clinics led by Irving alongside Indonesian coach Ali Budimansyah, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots development and inspire the country’s next generation of basketball talent.

As part of the tour, ANTA unveiled Irving’s latest signature footwear collection, inspired by his late mother, Elizabeth Irving, marking another milestone in the long-term partnership between the NBA star and the global sportswear brand.

Irving is widely regarded as one of the premier point guards of his generation. He played a pivotal role in helping the Cleveland Cavaliers capture the franchise’s first NBA championship in 2016 and won Olympic gold with Team USA at the 2016 Rio Games, cementing his place among basketball’s elite players.

Basketball has gained significant momentum in Indonesia in recent years, driven by rising youth participation, stronger community engagement, and increasing investment from international sports organizations and brands. The country’s growing profile has positioned it as an increasingly attractive destination for global basketball events and commercial partnerships.

Irving’s Jakarta appearance reflects a broader trend extending beyond Indonesia. As basketball continues to expand across Southeast Asia, the region is becoming an increasingly important market for the NBA, international athletes, and global sports companies seeking to engage one of the world’s youngest and fastest-growing fan bases.
