ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Attorney General’s Office has expanded its investigation into an alleged corruption scheme involving bauxite mining permits in West Kalimantan, seizing luxury assets, heavy mining equipment, and real estate while broadening its probe to include additional corporate executives.
The investigation centers on PT Quality Sukses Sejahtera (PT QSS), whose beneficial owner, Sudianto, also known as Aseng, has been named a suspect in a case prosecutors say involves alleged irregularities in mining permits and bauxite exports between 2017 and 2025.
During coordinated searches conducted from June 11 to June 16 in West Kalimantan and Jakarta, investigators confiscated a range of assets believed to be linked to the alleged offenses. The seizures included a 2022 Lamborghini Huracan, eight kilograms of gold bullion, dozens of dump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, operational mining vehicles, and several land parcels.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, investigators suspect PT QSS exported bauxite mined outside its licensed concession by using the company’s official mining permits and export documents. Prosecutors also allege the company obtained export approvals despite not operating the smelter required under Indonesia’s mineral export regulations.
Authorities believe the alleged scheme operated for several years, with state losses still being assessed by relevant government institutions.
The investigation has since expanded beyond the initial suspects. Prosecutors have summoned additional witnesses, including executives from companies believed to possess information relevant to the case, as they seek to establish the broader network behind the alleged misconduct.
The Attorney General’s Office has emphasized that individuals questioned as witnesses have not been charged with any crime and remain entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
The case is being closely watched as Indonesia intensifies efforts to strengthen governance in its mining sector, improve regulatory compliance, and reinforce oversight of one of the world’s largest producers of bauxite and other strategic minerals. (AT Network)
