ASIATODAY.ID, WEST SUMBAWA — Indonesia has taken another significant step in strengthening its position in the global critical minerals supply chain after PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMAN) officially completed its integrated copper smelter in West Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara.
The milestone was marked by the signing of a Completion and Project Acceptance Certificate (PAC) between AMMAN and its strategic engineering partner, China Nonferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (NFC), at NFC’s headquarters in Beijing, China, on July 18, 2026.
The completion confirms that all construction and commissioning works within the contractual scope have been finalized. The smelter has also successfully passed its performance guarantee test and entered its long-term operational phase after more than one year of operation.

As a National Strategic Project (PSN), the AMMAN copper smelter is designed to process up to 900,000 metric tonnes of copper concentrate annually from the Batu Hijau mine and, in the future, the Elang project.
The facility represents a major step in Indonesia’s downstream industrialization strategy, which seeks to increase domestic value creation by processing mineral resources within the country rather than exporting raw materials.
A New Chapter for Indonesia’s Copper Industry
AMMAN President Director Arief Sidarto said the completion of the smelter represents a significant milestone in the company’s transformation into an integrated mining and mineral processing company.
“The completion of this smelter project marks an important milestone for AMMAN. Behind this achievement lies the dedication, resilience, and strong collaboration of our employees and partners in overcoming challenges throughout the construction and commissioning process,” Arief said.
He added that the project reinforces AMMAN’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s downstream industrialization agenda while strengthening the competitiveness of the country’s mineral processing sector.
Supporting the Global Energy Transition
The integrated complex will produce high-purity copper cathodes, gold, silver, sulphuric acid, and selenium — commodities that play an increasingly important role in industries supporting global economic growth and the energy transition.
Copper, in particular, has become one of the world’s most strategic minerals due to its critical role in renewable energy infrastructure, electric vehicles, electricity networks, digital technologies, and advanced manufacturing.
Through advanced processing technologies and modern environmental systems, the facility has been designed to deliver high metal recovery, improved energy efficiency, operational reliability, and responsible resource utilization.
Strengthening Global Mineral Supply Chains
The completion of the AMMAN smelter comes as countries around the world compete to secure stable supplies of critical minerals needed for industrial transformation and clean energy development.
Indonesia’s downstream strategy has increasingly attracted global attention as the country seeks to move up the value chain, develop industrial ecosystems, attract investment, and capture greater economic benefits from its natural resources.
NFC Chairman Liu Yu said the successful completion of the project demonstrates the importance of international cooperation in advancing large-scale, high-value mineral processing industries.
With the copper smelter and precious metals refinery facilities, AMMAN is moving toward becoming a fully integrated mining-to-smelting company serving key markets across Asia.
