ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s seafood industry continues to gain international recognition.

A total of 35 Indonesian seafood processing companies (UPI) have officially obtained export approval to Vietnam, following a rigorous quality assurance program implemented by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).

This milestone strengthens Indonesia’s position as a major seafood exporter in Southeast Asia and underscores the country’s growing competitiveness in the global market.

Head of KKP’s Fish Quarantine and Quality Control Agency, Ishartini, said the new export approvals are the result of a consistent quality assurance program applied throughout the entire supply chain — from production and harvesting to processing and export certification.

“We implement quality assurance in accordance with international standards, and enhance bilateral cooperation through mutual recognition agreements on quality systems. This is part of KKP’s fisheries diplomacy to expand export access,” Ishartini stated in Jakarta, quoted on November 11, 2025.

The expanded export access follows the Bilateral Agreement on the Equivalence of Fish Quality Systems between Indonesia and Vietnam. Through this agreement, Vietnam’s competent authority approved 35 additional Indonesian fish processing units proposed by KKP.

Among them are PT Nison Indonesia, PT Sun Fisher Indo, PT Sumber Laut Rejeki, PT Nirwana Segara, PT Raja Panen Sukses, PT Dan Laut Indonesia, PT Seafood Nusantara Makmur, PT Global Agrikalis Indonesia, PT Balinusa Windumas, and PT Okta Viva Makmur.

Total of 646 Indonesian Fish Processors Now Registered for Export to Vietnam

With the new approvals, the total number of Indonesian seafood processors registered to export to Vietnam has reached 646 units. According to KKP, this demonstrates growing confidence in Indonesia’s seafood safety and quality standards.

“Following this addition, a total of 646 UPIs have been approved for export to Vietnam. This shows Vietnam’s recognition of Indonesia’s robust quality assurance system,” Ishartini added.

Top Exported Products: Squid, Tuna, and Seaweed

As of 2024, Indonesia exported 672 types of seafood products to Vietnam. The top ten products by export volume include:

Frozen squid

Frozen whole round squid

Frozen cuttlefish

Frozen yellowfin tuna

Frozen yellowfin tuna loins

Dried Gracilaria seaweed

Frozen yellowfin tuna gill gutted

Frozen squid whole round

Frozen soft cuttlefish

Sea frozen cuttlefish

Indonesia’s total seafood export volume to Vietnam in 2024 exceeded 100,000 tons, while Vietnam’s seafood exports to Indonesia totaled only 6,934 tons — resulting in a significant trade surplus for Indonesia.

Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono reaffirmed that KKP acts as the Competent Authority (CA) responsible for overseeing seafood quality and safety controls throughout the production chain.

“KKP ensures official control across the fisheries production process and issues the Health Certificate for Quality and Safety of Fish and Fishery Products (SMKHP) to meet the export requirements of destination countries,” said Minister Trenggono.

This achievement highlights Indonesia’s growing reputation as a reliable global seafood supplier — recognized not only for its large production capacity but also for its strict adherence to international safety and quality standards.

KKP remains committed to strengthening its blue economy diplomacy through sustainable and quality-based exports. (AT Network)
