ASIATODAY.ID, MANILA – In response to the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is preparing a $3 million emergency grant to support humanitarian relief efforts for affected communities.
This urgently needed funding will be channeled through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to deliver essential food supplies and multi-purpose cash assistance for purchasing vital items such as drinking water, medical supplies, and shelter.
“We are deeply concerned about the impact of this disaster on the people of Myanmar,” said Winfried Wicklein, ADB Director General for Southeast Asia. “This $3 million grant is part of our immediate response, and we are exploring additional avenues of support through the Asian Development Fund.”
The grant will be provided through the Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF), which enables rapid financing for life-saving operations in the aftermath of natural disasters across ADB’s developing member countries. (AT Network)
