ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Airbus aircraft manufacturer estimates that the Asia Pacific aviation sector will need 19,500 new aircraft by 2043, or 46% of the total global demand which is projected to reach 42,430 units.
President of Airbus Asia Pacific, Anand Stanley explained that projections for Asia Pacific, including China and India, show the need for new aircraft growing by 3% per year. With this increase in demand, the region’s fleet will continue to grow, driven by the need for fleet expansion as well as replacement of old aircraft, along with the increasing popularity of sustainable initiatives.
“Airbus estimates that around 16,000 single-aisle aircraft, such as the A220 and A320neo families, will be needed to support short to medium distance routes in this region,” said Anand Stanley in an official statement, quoted Wednesday, November 20 2024.
Apart from that, he said, demand for medium and large long-haul aircraft, such as the A330neo and A350, is projected to reach around 3,500 units. Recent wide-body aircraft orders in the region include Cathay Pacific (A330neo), EVA Air, Japan Airlines and Korean Air (A350).
Airbus projects that nearly 71% of all new aircraft deliveries will be allocated to fleet expansion, while the remaining 29% will be for replacing older aircraft, which will have a significant impact on decarbonization efforts.
Anand claims that the latest generation of Airbus wide-body aircraft are up to 25% more efficient in using fuel, and therefore have lower carbon emissions.
In the cargo segment, the Asia Pacific region is estimated to need around 250 new wide-body cargo aircraft, accounting for 10% of total global cargo demand. The A350F, based on the proven performance A350 platform, is designed to meet these needs with high efficiency, lower CO2 emissions and superior economics.
Anand also said the A350F meets the latest ICAO emissions standards, making it a leader in the large cargo aircraft market. STARLUX Airlines’ order for five A350F units earlier this year is proof of the market’s confidence in this model. (AT Network)
