The Ministry of Transportation has attended the 22nd ASEAN-JAPAN Senior Transport Official Meeting (STOM) Leaders Conference, which will be held on 25-27 June 2024 in Nagasaki, Japan.
The Indonesian delegation was led by the Special Staff of the Minister of Transportation for Funding and Finance, Otto Ardianto, accompanied by the Head of the Center for Facilitation of International Partnerships and Institutions, Fikry Cassidy, as well as representatives from the Directorate General of Land Transportation, the Directorate General of Railways and the Transportation Human Resources Development Agency.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking transportation officials from ASEAN member countries, Japan and the ASEAN Secretariat.
“The purpose of the meeting is to discuss cooperation and share long-term policies and visions in the transportation sector under the ASEAN-Japan Transport Partnership (AJTP) cooperation framework,” said Adita.
During the meeting, Malaysia, as Chair of ASEAN transportation sector cooperation in 2024, acted as Co-Chair together with Japan.
As one of the delegates, Indonesia expressed its appreciation for Japan’s support for the development of the transportation sector in ASEAN which has been running for more than two decades, especially Japan’s assistance for the construction of Patimban Port and the Jakarta MRT.
“The development of these two strategic projects continues to be expanded with the support of the Japanese Government,” said Adita.
The development of Patimban Port is currently in the second phase of construction, expanding the container terminal to a capacity of 3.75 million TEUs and the car terminal to a capacity of 600,000 units/year.
Apart from that, together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japanese Government is finalizing plans to develop the Patimban Port back-up area.
Meanwhile, the development of MRT Jakarta Phase 2 is currently under construction and Phase 3 of the east to west route will begin in August 2024.
Indonesia also highlighted efforts to advance the logistics sector through several activities that have been carried out in collaboration with Japan, namely the Cold Chain Logistics Workshop; Policy Dialogue and Cold Chain Logistics Workshop; and the 19th ASEAN-Japan Expert Group Meeting on Logistics (AJEGML).
Indonesia also expressed its support for gender equality, by continuing to increase women’s participation or involvement in the transportation sector.
“Indonesia hopes that the meeting will have a positive impact on the transportation sector, reduce carbon emissions and improve shipping safety in Indonesian waters and the ASEAN region,” he added. (AT Network)
