ASIATODAY.ID, SINGAPORE – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, reaffirmed ASEAN’s strong commitment to promoting peaceful resolutions to pressing global conflicts, including the ongoing crisis in Gaza, rising tensions between Iran and Israel, and the prolonged instability in Myanmar.
The joint statement was delivered during a press conference following the Leaders’ Retreat held at Parliament House, Singapore, on Monday, June 16, 2025. The high-level meeting underscored ASEAN’s strategic role in fostering regional stability and global peace.
President Prabowo expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in the Middle East.
“We are gravely concerned about the situation in Gaza and the worsening conflict between Israel and Iran. We stress the urgent need for peaceful solutions, open dialogue, and an immediate ceasefire,” he stated.
Regarding the Myanmar crisis, both leaders agreed on the necessity of a diplomatic and constructive approach to restore peace.
“We agree that achieving a peaceful resolution in Myanmar requires continued engagement and inclusive dialogue,” President Prabowo emphasized.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong echoed Singapore’s steadfast commitment to regional cooperation within the ASEAN framework.
“As a founding member of ASEAN, Singapore will continue working closely with fellow member states to strengthen our region and uphold a rules-based multilateral order,” he affirmed.
Both leaders concluded by underscoring the strategic roles of Indonesia and Singapore in preserving international law and ensuring a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Southeast Asia. (AT Network)
