ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia has successfully attracted strong interest from China’s financial market through its latest Panda Bond issuance, raising 7 billion yuan or around US$1.03 billion (approximately IDR18.4 trillion).

The landmark transaction marks another step in Indonesia’s efforts to diversify global financing sources while strengthening financial cooperation with China, one of its largest economic partners.

Indonesia’s Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the strong investor response reflects growing confidence in the country’s fiscal management and economic fundamentals.

The Panda Bond issuance received total investor orders of 17 billion yuan, more than 2.4 times the amount offered, demonstrating strong appetite from Chinese institutional investors.

“This shows confidence in Indonesia’s fiscal policy and economic direction,” Purbaya said in Jakarta.

Strong China Market Confidence

Investor confidence was further supported by Indonesia’s AAA credit rating from China-based Lianhe Credit Rating, reinforcing perceptions of Indonesia’s economic stability and sovereign creditworthiness.

The Panda Bond consists of two tranches. The three-year bond accounts for 5.6 billion yuan with a coupon rate of 1.90%, while the five-year tranche totals 1.4 billion yuan with a coupon rate of 2.19%.

The settlement of the transaction is scheduled for 30 July 2026.

The proceeds will be used to support Indonesia’s 2026 state budget financing, including covering the government’s fiscal deficit.

Expanding Indonesia-China Financial Partnership

The successful Panda Bond issuance reflects the deepening economic relationship between Indonesia and China, extending beyond trade and investment into financial market cooperation.

For Indonesia, accessing the yuan-denominated bond market provides greater flexibility in managing international financing while strengthening its presence in Asia’s capital markets.

The strong demand from Chinese investors also sends a positive signal to global markets that Indonesia remains an attractive destination for long-term investment amid changing global economic conditions.

With continued economic reforms, industrial development, and downstream investment strategies, Indonesia is positioning itself as a key growth market in Asia.

The Panda Bond success adds another chapter to Indonesia’s expanding role in regional financial integration and its growing partnership with China. (AT Network)
