ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s digital creative economy is experiencing rapid growth as the YouTube ecosystem emerges as a major contributor to economic value, entrepreneurship, and job creation.
Research by Oxford Economics shows that the YouTube creative ecosystem contributed more than IDR8.4 trillion (around US$500 million) to Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2025 and supported more than 190,000 full-time jobs.
Google Indonesia Country Director Veronica Utami said Indonesia’s creators are increasingly transforming from individual content producers into digital entrepreneurs who build businesses, create employment, and contribute to the wider economy.
“Indonesia’s YouTube creative ecosystem has contributed more than IDR8.4 trillion to the country’s GDP,” Veronica said in Jakarta.
Beyond content creation, the ecosystem has stimulated supporting industries, including production houses, creative services, technology providers, and local businesses.
Creators Reach Global Audiences
YouTube has also opened international opportunities for Indonesian creators. Research shows that 81 percent of creators in Indonesia generate income through YouTube while reaching audiences beyond the domestic market.
This reflects the growing role of the creator economy as a sustainable sector, connecting creativity, technology, and global commerce.
AI Boosts Indonesia’s Digital Creativity
The expansion of Indonesia’s creative ecosystem is being accelerated by artificial intelligence (AI).
Public First research found that 63 percent of AI users in Indonesia are classified as intermediate or advanced users, higher than the reported level in the United States.
Generative AI tools are helping creators and businesses improve productivity, develop new ideas, and expand innovation across various industries.
Public First estimates that widespread adoption of AI-powered creative tools could generate Rp66 trillion in annual economic potential for Indonesia.
AI adoption is also projected to save creative workers up to 390 hours annually and support the emergence of 1.8 million new creators by 2035.
Indonesia’s Digital Future
The rapid growth of YouTube creators and AI adoption highlights Indonesia’s rising position in Asia’s digital economy.
With a large consumer market, young digital population, and growing technology ecosystem, Indonesia is increasingly positioning its creative sector as a key driver of future economic growth. (AT Network)
