ASIATODAY.ID, BANYUWANGI – A tourist from China was found dead after slipping in the Ijen Crater, Banyuwangi, East Java, on Saturday morning, April 20 2024. The victim was identified as HL, 31 years old.

Head of the Conservation Section for Region V Banyuwangi, Dwi Putro Sugiarto, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, that incident is true. The victim and his entourage are known to have left Paltuding for the Ijen Crater at around 02.10 WIB,” said Dwi.

Dwi revealed that at that time the victim had come down from the climb, then the victim and his group climbed back to the crater rim to watch the sunset.

“They went down the climb after watching the blue fire, then climbed back to Mount Ijen to watch the sunset,” he added.

While watching the sunset, they took turns taking photos. Initially the husband took photos alone.

After that, the wife took her turn posing on a branch located on the edge of the crater, and then the slip incident occurred.

Dwi explained that the incident was purely an accident. Officials, he said, had reminded all tourists to be careful when climbing Mount Ijen.

“This incident occurred purely as a result of an accident. This is the umpteenth time, even though we have reminded all tourists to always be careful,” he explained.

The Head of the Slippery Sector Police, AKP Junaedi, said that the victim’s body had been taken to the Blambangan Regional General Hospital for further treatment. The husband and tour guide accompanied him when the body was taken to the hospital.

“The condition of the victim has died with injuries from the impact and a broken leg bone. The plan is that the victim’s body will be returned to his country,” said Junaedi. (AT Network)
