Several important things that are of concern to Indonesia include strengthening physical and digital infrastructure connectivity by improving connectivity networks to facilitate the movement of people and goods, exploring the potential of high added value industrial sectors in strategic commodities and prioritizing the development of clean energy producing industries, such as bio-fuel. and bio-ethanol, promotion of halal industry, encouraging the creative economy, as well as accelerating the completion of the IMT-GT Flagship Project, and finally encouraging the implementation of sustainable green city development through the Sustainable Urban Development Framework (SUDF) framework.

“All of these goals can only be realized if all elements of cooperation collaborate in preparing measurable projects, and collaborate with other sub-regional collaborations, such as BIMP-EAGA and GMS,” stressed Edi.

Furthermore, Edi also conveyed input to the Regional Heads who are members of the Chief Ministers and Governors Forum (CMGF) to prepare a measurable action plan for the realization of the IMT-GT 2036 Vision.

The CMGF also needs to be used as a forum for discussion and best practices in formulating policies for controlling inflation, waste management, regional digitalization and environmental conservation.

“Let’s create an IMT-GT sub-region with the 3V principle, namely Vibrant (energetic), Verdant (green), and Value (added value),” concluded Edi.

On this occasion, consolidation in the promotion of the IMT-GT Visit Year program, acceleration in the completion of the Dumai – Malaka Ro-Ro connectivity project, as well as new Batam – Johor connectivity opportunities also became the attention of the IMT-GT Ministers from CMGF.

Furthermore, in the Retreat Meeting session, the Ministers also discussed the Asian Development Bank (ADB) proposal in preparing the 2030 Blue Economy Collaborative Strategy. This initiative is a collaborative and strategic step to achieve a shared vision of realizing the use of the marine economy as well as environmental sustainability and sustainable economic growth. In principle, the Ministers support this initiative, however, further discussions regarding mechanisms and implementation are necessary

For your information, the 30th IMT-GT Ministerial Meeting is the culmination of a series of meetings which have been held since September 9 2024. The meeting was chaired by the Malaysian Ministry of Economy Rafizi Ramli.

Also present on this occasion were Senior Advisor of the National Economic and Social Development Council of Thailand Sasithorn Palattadej, Vice President for East Asia-Southeast Asia and the Pacific Scott Morris and Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary General for the ASEAN Economic Community ASEAN Secretariat Satvinder Singh, and ADB Representative.
