ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The banking sector continues to modernize its services, aiming to increase efficiency and enhance the experience for both agents and customers.
One key aspect of this transformation is the adoption of Android-based Electronic Data Capture (EDC) machines. These devices are no longer limited to card-swiping functions—they now also support QRIS payments and even cash withdrawals.
Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is among the institutions embracing this transformation through its Android BRILink EDC machines. These devices are user-friendly, allowing agents to learn operations quickly and comfortably, reducing training time and minimizing the risk of user errors.
The machines feature a full-color touchscreen that simplifies menu navigation, making transactions clearer and more seamless for agents.
Beyond serving as payment terminals, Android EDC machines function as platforms for running various applications. They are fully integrated with BRI’s internal systems and compatible with rapidly growing cashless services such as QRIS and e-wallets.
In terms of connectivity, Android EDC devices support 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, ensuring transaction continuity by allowing users to switch to alternative connections if one fails.
These machines also boost operational efficiency and future innovation. They support remote troubleshooting diagnostics, reducing the need for on-site visits from BRI technicians.
Moreover, they collect detailed operational data that can be analyzed for performance evaluation, transaction trends, and strategic business planning.
BRI has officially announced that all conventional EDC machines will cease operation as of March 3, 2025. This marks the transition to Android EDC (or mPOS) as a strategic and mandatory step for all BRILink agents to remain operational.
This replacement signifies BRI’s forward-thinking approach to maintaining a modern, efficient, and secure BRILink ecosystem that delivers optimal services to the wider public.
BRILink Agents
Branchless banking services have become an increasingly vital financial alternative for the public. BRILink Agents, in particular, have shown continuous growth.
As of 2024, BRI reported a total of 1.06 million BRILink agents, up from 740,000 agents in the previous year.
During the same period, total transactions processed through BRILink amounted to between IDR 1,583 trillion and IDR 1,589 trillion, while fee-based income reached IDR 1.6 trillion in 2024 alone.
Cumulatively, from 2020 to 2024, BRILink has facilitated a minimum of IDR 5,500 trillion in transactions, generating IDR 7.06 trillion in total fee-based income.
As banking’s extended hand, BRILink agents have created over 1 million job opportunities, directly impacting the livelihood of an estimated 3 to 5 million people, including family members and communities around the agents’ locations.
To become a BRILink agent and receive an EDC machine, applicants are generally required to place a deposit of IDR 3 million, which is held as long as they remain active agents.
However, there is an alternative: if an applicant holds a BRI loan account with good credit standing over the past six months, the deposit requirement is waived. (ATN)
