ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The President of Turkiye, Recep Tayyib Erdogan, congratulated Prabowo Subianto, the President of Indonesia who was elected based on the quick count and the General Election Commission’s preliminary calculation.
Based on data from the General Election Commission on Thursday, February 22 2024, at 21.00 WIB, the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka are still leading with 58.93% of the vote.
Erdogan’s congratulations to Prabowo were conveyed in an official letter handed over directly by the Turkiye Ambassador to Indonesia, Talip Kucukcan.
Apart from congratulations, Erdogan’s letter also contains hopes for improving relations between Indonesia and Turkiye on the basis of shared values and historical relations for the benefit of both countries.
“I want to express my deep gratitude for the support and friendship between our two countries,” wrote Prabowo in his Instagram account, Thursday, February 22 2024.
Before Erdogan, Prabowo also received congratulations from Philippine President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. He conveyed these congratulations via his social media account X, on Tuesday, February 20 2024.
“My congratulations to Defense Minister @prabowo for his lead in the final vote count to become Indonesia’s next president,” wrote Marcos.
He also hopes that in the future he can strengthen bilateral relations between the Philippines and Indonesia, which are close neighbors and partners in ASEAN. Moreover, the Philippines and Indonesia will also celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations this year.
Responding to these congratulations, Prabowo said that he was honored by the welcome given.
“Thank you Mr President @bongbongmarcos! I am grateful and honored for your welcome. It is an honor for me to serve the Indonesian people,” he replied via the X account @prabowo.
Prabowo also looks forward to working with Marcos and continuing the friendship between Indonesia and the Philippines that has existed for 75 years.
