ASIATODAY.ID, MOROWALI – A severe explosion occurred at the nickel smelter belonging to the Chinese company, PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi, Sunday, December 24 2023.
In this incident, 13 people were reported killed.
Based on reports received by the police, it was stated that the PT ITSS smelter furnace that exploded was in the PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (PT IMIP) area in Bahodopi District.
Bahodopi Sector Police Chief Ipda Edy said the explosion occurred this morning.
“Yes, it is true that the smelter in the PT IMIP area exploded,” said Ipda Edy when contacted Sunday, December 24 2023.
Edy confirmed that there were fatalities but the number was still being recorded.
As a result of this incident, the victims were rushed to hospital to receive medical treatment. Regarding the exact number of victims in the incident, the Morowali Police could not reveal the details. (AT Network)
