ASIATODAY.ID, WASHINGTON — The World Bank Group has appointed Tatiana Proskuryakova as the new Division Director for the North and South Pacific, placing her in charge of development cooperation across nine Pacific Island countries as the region faces growing economic and climate challenges.

Effective July 2026, Proskuryakova will lead the World Bank Group’s engagement in the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu.

Her appointment comes at a critical moment for Pacific Island nations, which are seeking stronger economic resilience, improved infrastructure, and greater access to opportunities amid climate pressures and global economic uncertainty.

“The Pacific is at the forefront of some of the world’s most pressing challenges, but also has enormous opportunities,” Proskuryakova said.

She said she looks forward to working closely with governments, private sector partners, development institutions, and communities to create jobs, strengthen economies, and deliver lasting benefits for Pacific people.

Under her leadership, the World Bank Group will continue supporting programs focused on job creation, stronger health systems, digital connectivity, climate-resilient transport infrastructure, and more inclusive financial systems.

These investments are designed to help Pacific countries improve public services, expand economic opportunities, and build long-term resilience against climate and development challenges.

Proskuryakova brings more than three decades of experience with the World Bank Group. Before taking her new role, she served as Regional Director for Central Asia, leading development initiatives across a region undergoing major economic transformation.

Her career at the World Bank Group has also included assignments across Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean, giving her broad experience in supporting countries through complex development transitions.

The Pacific region has become an increasingly important focus for global development efforts as island nations confront rising sea levels, extreme weather events, limited economic diversification, and infrastructure gaps.

With Proskuryakova’s appointment, the World Bank Group aims to deepen partnerships across the Pacific and support sustainable growth that benefits communities throughout the region. (AT Network)
