ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia has marked a new milestone in international football.
FIFA has officially designated Jakarta as the regional football hub for Southeast and East Asia. The announcement was made by Erick Thohir, President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), following his meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the FIFA Executive Football Summit 2025 in Miami, United States, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
This designation was formalized through the signing of the Host Country Agreement (HCA) and the establishment of the FIFA Hub office in Jakarta. The agreement complements the initial HCA signed in November 2023. The Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports will officially ratify the agreement through a formal tripartite legal endorsement.
A Historic Moment for Indonesian and Asian Football
“This is a historic day for Indonesia and for football in Asia. FIFA’s trust in us and in the growing football landscape of Asian countries is truly significant,” said Erick Thohir in an official statement released by PSSI on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
He added that the Jakarta FIFA Hub would not only benefit Indonesia but would also serve 21 member associations across Southeast and East Asia.
“With this latest HCA, FIFA’s presence in Jakarta will play a broader role—beyond Indonesia—by supporting the overall development of football across Asia,” he explained.
FIFA’s Long-Term Commitment to Asia
FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized that the Jakarta office represents FIFA’s long-term commitment to football development in the region.
“Today marks a major milestone for Indonesian football and the future of the sport in Asia, as we take a significant step to expand FIFA’s presence through our regional office in Jakarta,” Infantino said.
Infantino also praised the impressive progress made by PSSI over the past two years. According to Erick, FIFA acknowledged the positive strides Indonesia has made in football governance and the increasing success of the national team.
PSSI Awarded FIFA Forward Gold Award
During the same summit in Miami, PSSI was honored with the FIFA Forward Gold Award—a prestigious recognition granted to select FIFA member associations in Asia. The award was given for PSSI’s successful development of the PSSI National Training Centre in Indonesia’s new capital (IKN), funded through the FIFA Forward Program with a grant of USD 5.4 million.
