ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The city of Jakarta has officially joined the World Cities Culture Forum (WCCF), a global network consisting of more than 40 cities in the world. The city of Jakarta is the first city in Southeast Asia to join this group.
Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries of the City of London Government as Founder and Chair of the World Cities Culture Forum (WCCF) Justine Simons OBE welcomed Jakarta’s joining as a member of the WCCF, as well as becoming the first city in Southeast Asia.
According to him, culture is an important element in a city’s success because it can unite communities and help drive the economy.
“Through this forum, we are using our strengths to overcome the challenges of the 21st century. We look forward to collaborating with the city of Jakarta to support its growth as a global cultural capital,” said Justine, quoted Monday, June 24 2024.
The city of Jakarta joined as a member of the WCCF to coincide with the celebration of its 497th anniversary on June 22 2024. Later, Jakarta will collaborate with more than 40 cities, including Bengaluru, Buenos Aires, London, New York and Tokyo, placing culture at the heart city of growth and investment.
The city of Jakarta will also be included in the 2025 World Cities Culture Report, a comprehensive data report on culture and cities with 65 indicators, which is published every three years.
Based on Global Power City Index data, Jakarta is currently ranked 45th out of 48 other global cities.
Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Service, Andhika Permata, said that joining the City of Jakarta in the WCCF could be a means of promoting the attractiveness of Jakarta’s arts and culture-based tourism and creative industries.
“As well as responding to increasingly complex urban challenges, while improving the quality of life of the community through the tourism and culture sectors,” said Andhika.
He said the city of Jakarta is a place of interaction between various cultures that is developing rapidly, becoming one of the important tourism and cultural cities in Southeast Asia.
“The government is committed to making the city of Jakarta the center of the national economy and able to compete as a global city on the international stage,” he added. (ATN)
