ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has left for the United States to meet President Joe Biden, after attending the Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Sunday (12/11 /2023).
President Jokowi and a limited entourage took off from King Khalid International Airport at around 09.40 local time.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in her press statement in Riyadh on Saturday (11/11/2023) said that the OIC Extraordinary Summit was very important to show the solidarity of the OIC countries and to find additional efforts so that Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people could be stopped immediately.
“In his statement, President Jokowi, among other things, said that the OIC must unite and be at the forefront of resolving the situation in Gaza,” he said, quoted from a press release from the Presidential Secretariat, Sunday (12/11/2023).
According to him, the summit had produced a resolution containing 31 decisions with very strong and very harsh messages. The resolution also shows the OIC’s unified position regarding the very worrying situation in Gaza.
Some of the contents of the decision include condemning Israel’s aggression in Gaza, urging the UN Security Council to act to produce a resolution so that atrocities can end immediately, aid can come in, and the importance of complying with international law.
Specifically for paragraph 11 in the resolution, the leaders gave a mandate to the Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Turkiye, Indonesia and Nigeria to initiate action on behalf of the OIC and the Arab League to stop the war in Gaza and start a political process to achieve peace
“Paragraph 11 is an acknowledgment from the OIC of Indonesia’s activeness or active contribution in continuing to try to resolve the Palestinian problem, especially recently the situation in Gaza,” he said.
Previously, Jokowi confirmed that he was ready to dialogue with United States President Joe Biden regarding crimes against humanity in Palestine due to the invasion by Israel.
Jokowi said that these efforts were part of Indonesia’s contribution to the peaceful situation in Palestine which was based on the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.
“I have also scheduled a meeting with President Joe Biden on Monday for a bilateral visit to the United States with the permission of the leaders. I will convey the results of the decision of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to President Biden,” he said.
Jokowi also ensured that Indonesia was ready to contribute to peace negotiations. The condition is that the OIC must unite and ensure its position, namely being at the forefront for Palestine.
According to him, the organization must use all its diplomatic means and influence to defend justice and humanity for Palestine.
The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia admitted that he was concerned about Israel’s atrocities against Palestine as if more than 7.9 billion of the world’s population and more than 190 heads of state had been rendered powerless. Because until now no one has been able to stop this cruelty.
“Therefore, all countries that are members of the OIC must be able to unite and be at the forefront of solving problems,” concluded Jokowi. (AT Network)
