ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Hundreds of companies around the world prohibit their employees from using artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots made by a company from China, namely DeepSeek.
Nadir Izrael, chief technology officer of cybersecurity company Armis Inc, based in the United States, stated that hundreds of companies, especially those linked to the government, blocked access to DeepSeek due to the potential threat of data leaks to the Chinese government.
Nadir said that 70 percent of Armis clients requested to block access to the DeepSeek chatbot.
“The biggest concern is the potential leak of AI model data to the Chinese government. You don’t know where your information goes,” said Nadir Izrael as reported by the Financial Post, Thursday, January 30 2025.
The same thing was also conveyed by Netskope Inc, a service that companies use to limit their employees’ access to certain websites. As many as 52 percent of Netskope clients also requested DeepSeek access blocking.
DeepSeek’s popularity has recently increased to make the application occupy the top position in the App Store and Play Store. On the other hand, concerns arise regarding data security in the application because DeepSeek collects and stores data on their servers in China, so many parties assess the potential for data to be leaked to the Chinese government.
The DeepSeek application is an alternative chatbot to ChatGPT which is supported by the V3 model made in China. Users can use this chatbot to analyze files, answer questions, and get information from the web.
This free app also allows users to upload files and sync chat history across devices.
Although DeepSeek holds the top spot for now, it will need to reach 300 million weekly users to overtake OpenAI’s ChatGPT for the long-term popularity lead in the competitive AI chatbot app.
DeepSeek has reportedly received a lot of attention from the industry in recent days. Startups like Perplexity and Gloo – a new company owned by former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger – are already integrating DeepSeek for their uses. (AT Network)
