IMT-GT Forum: Indonesia Offers Green Investment Opportunities on Sumatra Island

ASIATODAY.ID, JOHOR BAHRU – The Indonesian government continues to open up sustainable investment opportunities in various regions, one of which is on the island of Sumatra.

Sumatra’s average economic growth in 2024 will be 4.5%, driven by performance in various sectors, such as infrastructure development, plantations, mining, agriculture, manufacturing and services.

Sumatra Island is also the second largest contributor to national Gross Domestic Product, namely 22.1%. This shows the important role of Sumatra in carrying out economic diversification and sustainable development.

The Regional Government in Sumatra is also committed to actively encouraging green economic growth, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, empowering the younger generation, and strengthening digital technology.

“Indonesia offers various opportunities for trade, tourism, agriculture and investment cooperation on the island of Sumatra to stakeholders in the sub-regional region,” said the Acting Governor of South Sumatra Province who is also the Deputy for Coordination of Business Development of State-Owned Enterprises, Research and Innovation at the Coordinating Ministry for the Indonesian Economy , Elen Setiadi at the 21st Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Chief Minister and Governors’ Forum (CMGF) Meeting at the Desaru Coast Conference Center, Johor, Malaysia, Wednesday, September 11.

As Chair of the Indonesian Delegation, he also conveyed at least 4 important things in strengthening the synergy of the Regional Heads’ cooperation forum in the IMT-GT region, namely strengthening the capacity and role of regional governments, utilizing the IMT-GT economic corridor, optimizing the implementation of IMT-GT Visit Year 2023- 2025 to promote tourism, as well as implementing work programs that have a direct impact on society.

Indonesia also explained various potential opportunities for cooperation, including the development of Special Economic Zones and Industrial Zones, processing superior natural resources, developing superior tourism destinations, developing connectivity infrastructure, and developing digital infrastructure by expanding broadband access to rural areas to create digital and electronic innovation. -cross-border commerce.

At this meeting, Indonesia also conveyed plans for the 8th IMT-GT Green City Mayor’s Council Meeting which is planned to be held in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia.

The 21st IMT-GT Working Area Heads Forum was chaired by Chief Minister of Johor Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. The meeting was also attended by the Governor of West Sumatra, the Governor of Trang Province, Thailand, representatives of the ADB and ASEAN Secretariat, the Director of CIMT, the Director of JBC Malaysia as Chair of IMT-GT JBC, and the Chairman of IMT-GT UNINET.  (AT Network)
