ASIATODAY.ID, MAGELANG – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, together with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron, officially launched a strategic cultural partnership between Indonesia and France at the iconic Borobudur Temple on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
This historic visit marks a new chapter in bilateral relations, focusing on the preservation of world cultural heritage and the advancement of creative industries across both nations.
In his remarks, President Macron emphasized that the partnership is built on two main pillars. The first pillar centers on the preservation of world heritage sites and museum management.
“Indonesia holds an extraordinary wealth of cultural heritage. France is ready to share its expertise through the collaboration between the Indonesian Heritage Agency and the Centre des Monuments Nationaux,” said Macron.
As part of this cooperation, in-depth studies will be conducted on priority heritage sites, supported by French educational and research institutions. Macron also announced the launch of a partnership between EVO and the Grand Palais Museum Guimet, aimed at showcasing contemporary art exhibitions featuring artists from both countries.
“We will offer real support aligned with Indonesia’s priorities. French schools, research centers, and cultural institutions are ready to actively participate,” he added.
The second pillar of the partnership focuses on strengthening the cultural and creative industries. President Macron highlighted that the initiative is designed to empower innovative youth in both Indonesia and France.
“This is a partnership for inventive young people — one that enables them to thrive and become self-reliant through culture,” he noted.
France will support Indonesia’s film industry through collaborations with the Centre national du cinéma (CNC) and La Fémis, covering training programs, film distribution, and international co-productions.
In the field of fashion, Macron praised the collaboration with PINTU, a creative incubator, as well as the participation of Indonesian designers in Paris Fashion Week. The partnership will also extend to design, gaming, gastronomy, and sustainable urban planning.
“I want to acknowledge the outstanding Indonesian creatives whose talents have been recognized in France — whether in Cannes, culinary arts, or fashion. This is a balanced and mutually beneficial partnership,” he said.
The choice of Borobudur Temple as the launch site holds profound symbolic meaning. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Borobudur stands as a testament to peace, diversity, and advanced civilization — a fitting venue to inaugurate a long-term cultural collaboration between two great nations.
“This moment is truly exceptional. It’s an honor to launch this partnership at Borobudur. France is committed to being a trusted cultural partner of Indonesia,” Macron concluded. (AT Network)
