Indonesia–Azerbaijan Forge Industrial Bridge Linking Asia and Eurasia

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia is expanding its industrial diplomacy toward Eurasia as it moves closer to establishing a strategic industrial partnership with Azerbaijan, a key connectivity hub linking Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe.

The planned cooperation agreement between Jakarta and Baku is expected to create new opportunities in investment, technology transfer, supply chain integration, and market access for Indonesian manufacturing industries.

The initiative comes as Indonesia seeks to strengthen its position in global value chains and diversify export destinations beyond traditional markets.

Indonesia Deepens Asia Trade Push

Azerbaijan’s growing role as a logistics and trade gateway has placed the country at the center of emerging Eurasian connectivity networks. Its location along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) provides a strategic link connecting China, Central Asia, the Caspian region, Europe, and beyond.

For Indonesia, deeper cooperation with Azerbaijan could open a new channel for expanding manufactured exports while creating opportunities for industrial collaboration with economies across Eurasia.

A Strategic Link Between Southeast Asia and Eurasia

Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy are discussing a framework for industrial cooperation covering key areas such as supply chain development, industrial standards, technology exchange, industrial zones, business forums, and human capital development.

Indonesian Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the partnership reflects Indonesia’s commitment to developing stronger international industrial networks.

“INNOPROM 2026 provides an important opportunity for Indonesia to strengthen partnerships with strategic countries, including Azerbaijan, while promoting investment cooperation and technology collaboration,” he said on July 17, 2026.

Indonesia’s participation as Partner Country at INNOPROM 2026 has become a platform to promote its manufacturing capabilities and connect with global industrial players.

Unlocking New Market Opportunities

The potential partnership arrives as global economies increasingly seek more resilient supply chains and alternative trade corridors.

With its strategic location between Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan offers Indonesia access to emerging markets in Central Asia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.

The cooperation could also support Indonesia’s ambition to move beyond commodity-based exports by strengthening higher-value manufacturing sectors, industrial innovation, and technology-driven production.

Trade Relations Show Strong Potential

Economic ties between Indonesia and Azerbaijan continue to develop, although bilateral trade remains below its full potential.

Indonesia exports a range of non-oil and gas products to Azerbaijan, including palm oil derivatives, soap, plastics, tobacco products, and processed food. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan supplies crude oil to Indonesia.

Bilateral trade reached US$155.2 million in 2025, highlighting significant room for expansion through stronger industrial and business cooperation.

The planned industrial partnership is expected to encourage greater private-sector engagement, increase investment flows, and create new opportunities for companies from both countries.

Indonesia’s Global Industrial Ambition

Indonesia’s engagement with Azerbaijan reflects Jakarta’s broader strategy to expand economic partnerships and strengthen its role in global manufacturing networks.

At INNOPROM 2026, attended by nearly 900 participants from more than 50 countries, Indonesia is positioning itself not only as a major Southeast Asian economy but also as an emerging industrial partner for global markets.

The Indonesia–Azerbaijan cooperation marks a potential new chapter in connecting Southeast Asia with Eurasia — creating an industrial bridge that links markets, technology, and investment opportunities across continents. (AT Network)
