ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia condemns Israel’s military attack on Iran because the action is a violation of international sanctions.
“The escalation and expansion of the conflict shows Israel’s complete disregard for international law,” said the MOFA Indonesia press release on Saturday, October 25, 2024.
“All parties must also exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could increase tensions and cause further instability in the region,” said the MOFA statement.
Indonesia also emphasized that Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories is the root of the conflict in the Middle East.
Indonesia views that the only way to create peace in the region is to realize an independent Palestinian state within the framework of the Two-State Solution.
Therefore, Indonesia emphasizes the importance of the UN Security Council to consider further steps to end the illegal occupation.
Indonesia also urges the UN Security Council to carry out its responsibilities in accordance with the UN Charter to immediately stop all forms of violence committed by Israel, including acts of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and attacks on UNIFIL troops in Lebanon.
Early Saturday, Israel carried out airstrikes on Iranian military facilities in retaliation for Iran’s missile attack on Israel on Oct. 1.
The Iranian missile attack on Oct. 1 was in response to the assassination of Hamas political leader in Tehran in July and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut last month.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Saturday that based on its inherent right to legitimate defense, which is also enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, Iran has the right and duty to defend itself against Israeli aggression.
The exchange of fire between Israel and Iran escalated in 2024 after Tel Aviv bombed the Iranian Embassy in Syria on April 1, killing several senior military officials. Iran took self-defense action two weeks later, launching hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles at Israel. (AT Network)
