Indonesia Embraces Pacific Countries to Grow Together

ASIATODAY.ID, SAN FRANCISCO – President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a trilateral meeting with Papua New Guinea Prime Minister (PM) James Marape and Fiji PM Sitiveni Rabuka in Moscone North, San Francisco, United States, Thursday 16 November 2023

During the meeting, President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia will continue to be committed to making the Pacific region peaceful, stable and prosperous.

“I reiterate, Indonesia is strongly committed to making the Pacific region a peaceful, stable and prosperous region,” said the President.

Apart from that, President Jokowi also said that the meeting between the three countries reflected the close brotherly relations between fellow Pacific countries.

“This meeting reflects the increasingly close brotherhood among Pacific countries,” he said.

On this occasion, President Jokowi also appreciated the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) and the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) for respecting Indonesia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in a number of meetings.

“I also followed closely the implementation of the MSG Summit and PIF Summit, and I appreciate the position of MSG and PIF which respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Indonesia,” he said.

Furthermore, Jokowi said that Indonesia would continue to be committed to strengthening relations between Indonesia and MSG and PIF through a number of real collaborations.

“Indonesia has demonstrated this commitment on various occasions, including inviting PIF to the G20 Summit and the ASEAN Summit,” he said.

“Indonesia has succeeded in encouraging cooperation between the ASEAN Secretariat and PIF,” he continued.

Apart from that, President Jokowi expressed Indonesia’s hope to become a partner in the development of MSG and PIF.

President Jokowi was also happy to see a number of developments in the development of public facilities that had been carried out in Fiji and Papua New Guinea. (AT Network)
