ASIATODAY.ID, KARAWANG – The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) confirmed that the government will extend PT Freeport Indonesia’s (PTFI) copper concentrate export permit.
“Yes, it has been extended but we are still calculating,” said Jokowi after reviewing commodity prices together with the Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan at Pasar Baru Karawang, West Java, Wednesday, May 8 2024.
Jokowi said that the extension of the relaxation of copper concentrate exports was carried out to appreciate the efforts of Freeport and PT Amman Mineral Industri in fulfilling their commitment to downstream by building a smelter domestically.
“We appreciate Freeport and Amman for building the smelter and it is almost 100% complete. “We always follow developments,” he explained.
Jokowi emphasized that the extension of the relaxation of Freeport’s copper concentrate export permit would be handled by the relevant ministries, one of which was the Ministry of Trade.
“This is a matter for the Minister of Trade. I think the completion of the smelter shows their strong desire for downstreaming, for downstreaming domestically. “I think that’s very good and it should be appreciated,” concluded Jokowi. (ATN)
