Minister Nasaruddin conveyed this when opening the SHARIF 2024 Forum, a meeting of international Islamic scholars, scholars and religious leaders which was held in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 20 2024.

He also emphasized the importance of fiqh which is not only based on classical texts, but is also able to answer the challenges of the times.

“Islam is a religion that is rahmatan lil ‘alamin, and fiqh is a tool to realize that mercy. “Therefore, fiqh must continue to be updated according to the developing social, cultural and technological context,” he said.

Minister Nasaruddin also mentioned a number of contemporary issues that require in-depth discussion, such as the sharia-based digital economy, to the issue of halal products.

According to him, the current term sharia is not only related to Islam, but the terms halal ‘halal food’ and halal lifestyle have appeared in various countries in the last 10 years.

“Talking about sharia today is no longer about the Islamic religion, but a new trend for economic justice in the future,” he added.

According to him, the responsibility of an Islamic scholar and thinker is to provide guidance to the people.

“Don’t let Muslims be left behind in understanding and responding to global developments,” he added.

He emphasized the importance of international collaboration in formulating the implementation of Islamic law in the public domain. According to him, this will have an impact on various parties. Not only Muslims, but also citizens of other countries.

“Sharia law does not only talk about the principles of halal and haram, but also emphasizes universal values such as justice, sustainability and inclusiveness. This forum is expected to become a forum for strengthening cross-country cooperation in realizing human welfare,” he explained.

Minister Nasaruddin said that the forum with the theme “Sharia Services by Government towards Maslahah ‘Ammah” was also expected to produce concrete recommendations that could serve as a guide for Muslims throughout the world in facing global challenges, as well as strengthening synergy between international ulama.
