ASIATODAY.ID, COLOMBO – Indonesia is proposed to become a training center for young farmers in the Asia Pacific. The Indonesian Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko, submitted this proposal to the food and agriculture organization (FAO).
Moeldoko held a bilateral meeting with the Assistant Director General and FAO Regional Representative for Asia Pacific, Jong-jin Kim, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Friday, February 23 2024.
“Indonesia is willing to initiate the development of a research center, with support from FAO and other related institutions. This will be a forum for exchanging experiences and knowledge that can be utilized by countries in the Asia Pacific region,” said Moeldoko, quoted in his statement, Friday, February 23 2024.
Moeldoko also conveyed three strategic ideas to strengthen food security in Asia Pacific, namely encouraging farmer regeneration through training centers, building smart farming, and strengthening tropical farming research and innovation.
He said the establishment of a farmer regeneration training laboratory center was part of the transformation of the agri-food system.
Currently, he said, all countries are experiencing the same problem, namely that farmers are getting older and fewer young people are interested in agriculture. For this reason, a program to accelerate farmer regeneration through a training laboratory is needed.
“This will be a place to share knowledge and good practices from various Asia Pacific countries and then replicate them through the FAO network,” he said.
He ensured that Indonesia was ready to become a laboratory center for accelerating the formation of young farmers. The reason is that Indonesia has superior natural resources and human resources. (AT Network)
