In this year’s RECONEX, 20 USMC members and 120 KORMAR members trained together to improve advanced skills.

“It was during RECONEX that shared excellence was realized among an unlikely force, and it emphasized what makes this partnership – and Indonesia – so unique: Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, diverse but still one,” said Captain Ethan Hamilton, Company Commander, Company Alfa, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, quoted from the official statement from the United States (US) Embassy to Indonesia on Friday, 10 May 2024.

This training focuses on combat marksmanship and marksmanship, small boat training, land reconnaissance patrols, amphibious reconnaissance operations and more.

Apart from that, this year’s exercise is also claimed to improve the capabilities of reconnaissance troops from both countries with tactics, techniques and procedures in a free and hostile environment.

“The exercise concluded at the team and unit level using a combination of tactical discussions and practical applications that showcased and advanced the collective combat capability and camaraderie between KORMAR and USMC,” explained Captain Ethan.

He also said that RECONEX 24 was a unique opportunity for the highly specialized Indonesian and US militaries to collaborate, train and fight side by side.

Previously, it was known that US Army General for the Pacific region (USARPAC), General Charles Flynn visited Indonesia on April 21-23 2024 and met with TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto in order to strengthen relations between the countries which will celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.

This visit was carried out to discuss how the US and Indonesian militaries can build a sustainable security partnership. The ongoing partnership between the two countries is one of the pillars of 75 years of diplomatic relations celebrated by the US and Indonesia in 2024. (ATN)
