ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Just Transition Energy Partnership (JETP) is said to be a failed program in Indonesia. This was conveyed by the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, for Climate and Energy, Hashim Djojohadikusumo at the 2025 ESG Sustainability Forum, Friday, January 31 2025.
According to him, the US$20 billion energy transition funding assistance program is just empty talk.
Hashim said he met with the special envoy from the President of the United States John Podesta in Baku, Azerbaijan some time ago. Hashim said Podesta asked about the continuation of JETP. However, Hashim said, JETP failed because not a single dollar of funds was disbursed by the US for Indonesia for the energy transition. This includes a grant of US$5 billion in the total JETP commitment, of which none has flowed.
“It turns out there’s just a lot of talk. Turns out US$20 billion doesn’t exist, including US$5 billion for JETP,” said Hashim.
Hashim admitted that he had confirmed this data with stakeholders in Indonesia, including PT PLN (Persero). He then received confirmation that it was true that no JETP funds had entered Indonesia.
“I don’t think we should expect that US$20 billion,” said Hashim.
On the same occasion, PLN Executive Vice President of Energy Transition and Sustainability Kamia Handayani confirmed Hashim’s words. Kamia said that no budget from JETP had been included to fund PLN’s energy transition project.
“As stated by Mr. Hashim, JETP has not yet concretely funded projects from PLN,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that funding for the energy transition from the JETP scheme for Indonesia only amounted to US$ 500 million in August 2024.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana said that the funding came from the European Union and the International Partners Group (IPG) led by the US and Japan. (AT Network)
