Pertamina Geothermal Energy Lumut Balai area is located in Penindaian Village, Semende Darat Laut District, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province. The exact location is around 102 kilometers from Muara Enim City.
In the same place, the Lumut Balai I Geothermal Power Plant is already operating with an installed capacity of 55 MW, so that in future this Geothermal Power Plant will become the 3rd largest in Sumatra.
The construction of the Lumut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant will increase the geothermal capacity in the Lumut Balai Area by 55 MW, bringing the total geothermal power in the area to 110 MW.
“We are optimistic that in the future, Pertamina Geothermal Energy will be able to encourage the growth of green ecosystems globally and in Indonesia,” said Nicke Widyawati, Tuesday, December 19 2023.
Nicke Widyawati emphasized that the groundbreaking of Lumut Balai Unit 2 shows that Pertamina Geothermal Energy is serious about developing geothermal potential in Indonesia.
The President Director of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk. Julfi Hadi said that the Lumut Balai Unit 2 project was also a concrete step for the company to become a 1 GW Company. This project is included in the National Strategic Project.
Julfi explained that by carrying out the groundbreaking, Pertamina Geothermal Energy will accelerate the construction of the Lumut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant to the next stage.
“After the groundbreaking, we will accelerate to the engineering design stage, drilling the Fluid Collection and Reinjection System (FCRS) foundation and preparing the transmission line,” said Julfi.
Julfi further said that this project is targeted to operate by the end of 2024. The Lumut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant has the potential to reduce emissions of up to 581,784 tCO2eq per year.
This project is managed through collaboration between Indonesia and Indo-Pacific countries, namely Japan and China.
The company also collaborates with three companies from Japan, China and Indonesia, namely Mitsubishi Corporation, SEPCO III Electric Power Construction Co. Ltd. (SEPCO III), and PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk.
Apart from Lumut Balai Unit 2, Pertamina Geothermal Energy is also developing other geothermal projects to achieve its vision of becoming a 1 GW Company in the next two years. These projects include Hululais (Units 1 and 2) amounting to 110 MW as well as optimizing binary technology in existing areas. (AT Network)
