ASIATODAY.ID, ABU DHABI – A clean energy company based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), namely Masdar, said that Indonesia is the center of the renewable energy hub in the Southeast Asia region.

“Jakarta is our central hub for Southeast Asia. “In Jakarta, we decided to build our office,” said Chief Operating Officer (COO) Masdar Abdulaziz Alobaidli in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, quoted Tuesday, January 14 2024.

Even though Masdar is aiming to expand investment to countries around Indonesia, Alobaidli said that Indonesia remains the center of renewable energy in the Southeast Asia region.

“We are also targeting Malaysia, then the potential for energy exports to Singapore, the Philippines and other markets. “For sure, we started in Indonesia, and Jakarta is our regional center for the region,” said Alobaidli.

Masdar is involved in various renewable energy projects in Indonesia, one of which is the development of the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant project, in the Cirata Reservoir, West Java.

Apart from that, Masdar also received a Letter to Proceed (LtP) for investment in Government Cooperation with new and renewable energy business entities in the archipelago, East Kalimantan, from the Nusantara Capital Authority.

Masdar also holds a 15 percent stake in PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE).

Currently, Masdar is conducting a feasibility study for a wind power plant and the potential for building a hydroelectric power plant with a pumped storage system or pumping water to a higher reservoir when there is excess electricity.

“Wind power is quite difficult to develop in Indonesia. The topography of the area makes some projects unfeasible, but we are still exploring opportunities. “For pumped storage, the feasibility study is still ongoing,” said Alobaidli. (ANTARA)
