ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara resulted in a number of airports being forced to close.
As of Wednesday, November 13 2024, six airports had been recorded as closed due to the impact of volcanic ash. Based on the latest information, Lede Kalumbang Tambolaka Airport is included in the list of six airports that are closed today. The closure of the Tambolaka UPBU is based on NOTAMN – C1833/24.
“Lede Kalumbang Airport will be closed until Wednesday at 09.00 UTC (17.00 WITA). This closure was carried out because the airport was still affected by the volcanic ash from Mount Lewotobi,” said a statement from UPBU Tambolaka, quoted on Wednesday, November 13 2024.
Apart from that, Komodo Airport, Labuan Bajo will be closed again on Wednesday, November 13 2024 after previously being opened. The airport was closed again due to the impact of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi.
Based on official information from the Komodo Airport Organizing Unit, the airport will be closed again today until 20.00 WITA, because the airport is still affected by volcanic ash from Mount Lewotobi.
“Flight operations are expected to operate normally when the situation and conditions are conducive again,” said UPBU Komodo information, quoted Wednesday, November 13 2024.
The following is a list of six airports that will be closed as of Wednesday, November 13 2024:
– Fransiskus Xaverius Seda Airport – Maumere: NOTAMR C1831/24;
– H. Hasan Aroeboesman Airport – Ende: NOTAMR C1835/24;
– Soa Airport – Bajawa: NOTAMR C1834/24;
– Frans Sales Lega Airport – Ruteng: NOTAMR C1832/24;
– Labuan Bajo Airport : NOTAMN – A3595/24;
– Tambolaka Airport : NOTAMN – C1833/24.
Apart from these six airports, Sultan Muhammad Salahuddin Bima Airport also announced that all flights to and from Bima were being cancelled.
“We have been informed that flights to and from Bima today have been canceled due to the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Lewotobi,” wrote UPBU, quoted Wednesday, November 13 2024.
A total of three flights were canceled with flight codes IW1878 on the LOP-BMU route, IW1879 on the BMU-LOP route and IW 1826 on the DPS – BMU route.
Separately, the Head of the Communications and Public Information Bureau of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, Budi Rahardjo, said that a number of flights on the Jakarta – Bali and Jakarta – Lombok routes as well as the Bali – Australia route also experienced cancellations. This is due to the direction of distribution of volcanic ash which affects flights on this route.
“For safety reasons, a number of airlines have canceled flights on these routes today and we continue to monitor developments related to this,” concluded Budi Rahardjo.
13 thousand residents evacuated
Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Indonesian Culture, Pratikno, reported that as many as 13 thousand residents had been displaced due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.
This was conveyed by Pratikno when giving a report to President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday, November 12 2024 evening.
It is known that President Prabowo Subianto is currently in the United States on a working visit. However, President Prabowo continues to monitor domestic conditions, especially regarding natural disasters that occur in Indonesia.

In his introduction, President Prabowo asked the relevant ministers and officials to provide reports regarding developments in handling the Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki eruption disaster.
“I want to be given an update on the disaster situation at Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. Please give me an update, please,” said President Prabowo, opening the discussion.
The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Indonesian Culture, Pratikno then provided the latest report, saying that the joint team including the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Indonesian National Army, the Republic of Indonesia Police, and the regional government had coordinated and taken steps rescue and evacuation since the first eruption which occurred in the early hours of November 3.
