In the period 1-17 April 2024, PVMBG recorded the number of earthquakes on Mount Ruang as 1,439 deep volcanic earthquakes, 569 shallow volcanic earthquakes, six local tectonic earthquakes and 167 distant tectonic earthquakes.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) confirmed that 272 families or 828 residents of the Siau Tagulandang Biaro Islands had been evacuated by ship due to the eruption of Mount Ruang, from Tuesday, April 14 to Wednesday, April 17.

Meanwhile, the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources received a report that it was raining gravel and sand on the west side of Tagulandang Island due to the eruption of Mount Ruang.

“We coordinated with stakeholders in the field, they reported that gravel rain had occurred on Tagulandang Island,” said the Head of the Volcano Working Team, Heruningtyas online at the Press Conference on the Increase in Status of Mount Ruang from Alert to Warning, monitored from Jakarta, Thursday.

The rain of gravel damaged the roofs of local residents. Apart from the gravel rain, sand rain occurred in the western area of Tangulandang Island. Both of these things caused panic among local residents.

The recommendation given by the Geological Agency is to evacuate residents within a 6 km radius of the center of the active crater of Mount Ruang. (AT Network)
