ASIATODAY.ID, BANDUNG – Since it was officially opened to the public in 2000, NuArt Sculpture Park in Bandung City, West Java has been able to attract the attention of thousands of Indonesian art lovers.
It is recorded that during 2023, 27,107 visitors will come to this 4 hectare park and art space.
There is an increasing trend of 5.6% compared to visits in 2022 of 25,622 people so that on average, the park, whose entire area is filled with 110 works by Nyoman Nuarta, is able to attract visits of 2,259 people per month.
The high level of public interest in visiting the park, which was founded and managed personally by sculptor Nyoman Nuarta, also shows the level of public appreciation for the works of art in NuArt Sculpture Park, as one of the largest sculpture parks in Indonesia.
“We are very happy to see statistics on the increase in visitors to NuArt, because this park is able to encourage and inspire people to appreciate works of fine art,” said Anya Madiadipoera, Artist Representative Nyoman Nuarta & Space Director of NuArt, Friday, March 22 2024.
According to Anya, this increase is a positive thing not only for works of art, but also for society, because appreciation of works of art can provide visual satisfaction, but also brings a number of significant benefits for art lovers and connoisseurs.
“To be involved in appreciating works of art certainly requires critical and analytical thinking. “Through understanding the historical context, meaning and techniques used by artists, a person can develop critical thinking skills,” said Anya.
“This process helps us observe, analyze and conclude a work of art, which is also useful in many aspects of life,” he added.
NuArt is committed to developing fine arts in Indonesia by nurturing young talents to contribute to the development of fine arts in Indonesia.
“We are aware that the art world needs regeneration, for this reason we hope that the facilities at NuArt will provide encouragement for the country’s artistic talents to create,”
“NuArt opens up opportunities for artists to exhibit their works and work in the Terrace Gallery, covering an area of 200 square meters,” he said
Anya added, to further encourage the development of Indonesian fine arts, NuArt collaborates directly with artists or art groups and collaborates with several other cultural institutions to hold events at the Terrace Gallery, such as Maranatha University, Goethe Institute, The British Council, and Institut Francais Indonesia.
From 19 August to 1 October 2023, NuArt Sculpture Park, in collaboration with the Indonesian Society of Botanical Artists (IDSBA), will hold the botanical art exhibition Ragam Flora Indonesia 4, entitled Spreading the Beauty of Nature.
At the event, there were Open Studio and Art Jam sessions where botanical artists ‘practiced’ directly in the exhibition space and interacted with visitors. Meanwhile, in the Art Jam session, communities connected to fine arts and science, including Genbi (Biology Generation), Kolcai (Watercolor Painting Community), Black Line Drawing Community, Bandung Sketchwalk, and KPA Biocita Formica shared information according to their expertise, continued creating collaborative works together.
A number of important figures in Indonesia who have visited NuArt Sculpture Park include, the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and a number of ministers in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet, including; Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi.
Then, French Ambassador Fabien Penone, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo, and Prof. Rhenald Kasali, Ph.D is another figure who has visited NuArt Sculpture Park and expressed his appreciation for the works on display.
