ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Korea-Indonesia Integrated Ocean Fisheries Technology Training Center (KIOTEC) was officially launched at the office of the Marine and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development Agency in the Ancol area, North Jakarta.
KIOTEC is the implementation of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) Project with the theme “Establishment of the Integrated Ocean Fisheries Technology Training Center and Enhancing Capacity Building in Indonesia”.
This project is the result of collaboration between the Maritime and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development Agency, the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea (MOF).
“The presence of KIOTEC is not only a training facility, but a form of our commitment to preparing professional staff who are ready to face challenges and opportunities in this sector,” said Head of the Maritime and Fisheries Human Resources Extension and Development Agency, I Nyoman Radiarta in his official broadcast, Wednesday, February 26 2025.
The training center, which was launched on February 24, is home to various superior programs, such as the Master’s Degree Capacity Building Program, Doctoral Program, as well as short-term skills courses and special topic-based training.
“With close collaboration between government, academics, industry and international partners, I am confident that KIOTEC can develop into a center of excellence in developing competitive and innovative human resources,” continued Nyoman.
Simultaneously with the inauguration of KIOTEC, Marine Equipment Training 2025 was held in order to optimize the synergy between academic and technical capacity development, which was the first training program at this training center. The combination of these two events reflects KIOTEC’s commitment as a center of excellence in improving human resource skills in the marine and fisheries sector, as well as marking the start of various training programs.
Meanwhile, Park Hansan, the ODA Project Manager and the Korean Director of the Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) said, as part of the implementation of this ODA project, various capacity development programs have also been held, one of which is the Master’s Degree Capacity Building Program. The aim is to improve the academic and technical skills of Indonesian students in the field of fisheries and marine technology.
Currently, this scholarship program is run in collaboration with six universities in Indonesia, namely ITB, IPB, UNDIP, UGM, UNHAS, and UNPATTI with a total of 40 scholarship recipients.
“As we begin this journey, I invite everyone to make the most of the opportunities KIOTEC provides—to create, collaborate, and advance marine technology and education.
“Let’s celebrate this new beginning and hope to have a real impact in marine science and technology,” added Park Hansan. (AT Network)
