ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – A fire incident occurred at the Pertamina International (KPI) Balikpapan Refinery, East Kalimantan, Saturday, May 25 2024 in the morning. The fire started at the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU IV).
General Manager of the KPI Balikpapan Unit, Bayu Arafat, stated that the fire that hit the crude oil processing unit with a capacity of 170,000 barrels per day occurred at 04.25 WITA. With a fast and coordinated response, the firefighting team managed to control the situation without any fatalities or injuries.
“At the time of the incident there was no refinery maintenance activity at the location. “We are in the stages of increasing capacity to 300,000 barrels,” he said in Balikpapan, Saturday, May 25 2024.
Luckily, there were no significant operational disruptions and it was still able to meet the community’s fuel oil and gas needs.
Bayu added that Balikpapan Refinery 2 is currently closed for inspection, while Balikpapan Refinery 1 continues to operate normally.
“We are grateful for the prayers and support from all parties for the successful handling of this condition,” he said.
Meanwhile, Balikpapan Resort Police Chief Kombes Pol Anton Firmanto, stated that his party had deployed personnel for security and the Inafis Team was working at the location to find out the cause of the fire. (AT Network)
