ASIATODAY.ID, MOSCOW – Minister of Defense and President-elect of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Wednesday, July 31 2024, at the Kremlin, Moscow, Russia.
According to a written statement from the Kremlin, Prabowo visited Putin as part of a working visit to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Russia. In the meeting between the two leaders, negotiations began with close conversations.
The meeting was also attended by Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov; Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Joint Commission on Russian-Indonesian Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation Denis Manturov; as well as Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“I am very pleased to meet you. Good afternoon! Welcome,” said Putin.
Putin said Russia knows Indonesia as a friend. Prabowo is also known as a military and political figure in Indonesia, and is known to have good relations with partners in Russia.
“Indonesia and Russia have been linked by long-standing friendly relations for decades. Next year we will celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between our two countries,” said Putin.
Putin also said that economic and trade relations between the two countries had succeeded in developing, despite the pandemic and various events in Russia. Trade relations between Russia and Indonesia are even said to have doubled in recent years. He hopes that the trend in commercial relations between the two countries will continue.
Not only that, Putin also expressed his hope that the Eurase-Indonesia Free Trade Zone Agreement, which is ready to be signed, can play a positive and significant role in developing economic and trade relations between the two countries.
“The Eurasian market is large and broad. The Indonesian market, a country with a population of almost 300 million, is also of great interest to Russia,” he said.
Prabowo said Indonesia is open to Russia’s more active participation in its economy, adding that he would like to develop relations when officially takes office.
Additionally, Subianto told Putin that he had discussed with Russian state corporation Rosatom the possibility of cooperation in the nuclear industry. (AT Network)
