ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto delivered a powerful and emotional address at the 19th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), held at the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
Speaking before delegates from 38 member countries, Prabowo firmly stated that Palestine no longer needs resolutions but real action and unwavering solidarity.
The conference officially opened with the ceremonial beating of the traditional Tabuik drum by President Prabowo, Speaker of the House Puan Maharani, and President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Adama Bictogo, at the Nusantara Building, DPR RI complex.
In his keynote address, President Prabowo called on the Muslim world to unite, rise, and take concrete steps to end the long-standing suffering of the Palestinian people.
“I repeat this once again: It is time to stop merely discussing and drafting more resolutions. The people of Palestine have suffered for far too long. What they need now is solidarity and real action,” Prabowo declared, receiving a round of applause from delegates.
He reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to stand with Palestine and urged Muslim nations to put aside rivalries and focus on the collective strength and future of Islamic civilization.
President Prabowo also highlighted the pressing challenges confronting the Muslim world, including poverty, hunger, corruption, and disparities in education. He stressed that without good governance and strong institutions, Islamic nations will lack resilience and the ability to compete on the global stage.
This year’s PUIC theme, “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience”, was described by Prabowo as both timely and strategic.
“Without good governance, without strong institutions, without honest leadership, a country can never be resilient, let alone competitive,” he said.
Prabowo also emphasized the importance of mastering science, technology, and investing in human capital development. He mentioned Indonesia’s strategic efforts toward food and energy self-sufficiency as part of a broader national agenda.
“If we cannot govern our own nation properly, how can we help others who are in distress? If we are weak, our voices won’t even be heard,” he warned.
Gaza Belongs to the Palestinians, Not to Be Relocated
House Speaker Puan Maharani delivered a strong message on the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza. She called for concrete solidarity and collective action from OIC countries to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians amid ongoing military aggression.
“We gather today under the shadow of the heartbreaking situation in Gaza, which deeply touches our sense of humanity,” Puan said.
She painted a grim picture of Gaza, where civilians are victims, children and women face starvation, and hospitals and schools lie in ruins. Puan firmly rejected any proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza, calling it unjust and unacceptable.
“Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people. It must be rebuilt not just with bricks and walls, but with dignity, justice, and hope,” she asserted to the assembly.
She also urged PUIC member states to push for broader international recognition of the State of Palestine, and to adopt the Two-State Solution as the only path toward lasting peace in the Middle East.
Both Prabowo and Puan underlined that PUIC must go beyond rhetoric and become a platform that produces actionable recommendations for implementation by member states.
“The people we represent expect PUIC to deliver tangible outcomes that make a real difference,” said Puan.
In closing, President Prabowo shared a recent conversation with the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, during which they agreed that the Muslim world must become a source of solutions for global challenges, not a force of domination.
“Islam is a religion of peace and compassion. This is the essence of our faith, and the legacy we must revive. Let us prove that Islam is truly a mercy for all creation,” Prabowo concluded. (AT Network)
