ASIATODAY.ID, SINGAPORE — The annual Leaders’ Retreat between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, held on Monday, June 16, 2025, marked a historic milestone with the conclusion of 19 strategic agreements across multiple sectors.
President Prabowo described the meeting as one of the most productive and successful in the history of Indonesia–Singapore relations.
“This year’s Leaders’ Retreat was very productive and successful. We held a one-on-one meeting and reached 19 agreements across various areas of cooperation,” the President stated in a joint press conference with PM Wong.
In the area of political and security collaboration, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the bilateral defense cooperation agreement, including accelerating the technical finalization of military training areas.
Significant progress was also made in the extradition treaty mechanism, along with the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two Attorneys General.
On the economic front, President Prabowo expressed appreciation for Singapore’s role as one of Indonesia’s top investors. He emphasized the need to deepen collaboration through six bilateral economic working groups, which cover: Development of special economic zones, Agriculture and food security, Sustainable tourism, Labor and workforce development, Transportation and infrastructure and Renewable energy and low-carbon industrial zones.
The President also highlighted the strategic partnership between Temasek and Danantara in renewable energy projects and the green development of Batam, Bintan, and Karimun.
Indonesia welcomed Singapore’s offer to share modern agricultural technology, including urban farming and sustainable post-harvest practices. The signing of a memorandum of understanding laid the foundation for long-term collaboration in food security.
President Prabowo invited Singapore to actively support Indonesia’s healthcare system transformation, including the establishment of new medical and nursing faculties. Discussions also addressed the placement of skilled Indonesian workers, particularly in eldercare and caregiving sectors.
On connectivity, Indonesia pledged to increase direct flights to Singapore and enhance airport infrastructure.
“I want to ensure easier and faster access to our airports,” the President affirmed.
In closing, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Singapore, which has spanned over five decades.
“I am confident this bilateral relationship will continue to grow stronger with mutual trust and confidence. I look forward to welcoming you and your delegation at next year’s Leaders’ Retreat in Indonesia,” he concluded. (AT Network)
