ASIATODAY.ID, KOLAKA – The Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) of the Republic of Indonesia, reviewed the Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) & High-Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) nickel factory and refining (smelter) development project ) ) PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (Ceria) in Wolo District, Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Tuesday (17/10/2023).
Director of Trade, Investment and International Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, PN Laksmi Kusumawati revealed that the visit was related to the inclusion of the PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama RKEF & HPAL factory development project on the List of Private Investment Priority Projects (DPPIS) and the Government Work Plan (RKP) for 2023.
“The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas conducted a field visit to the PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama project site to obtain further information regarding the RKEF & HPAL factory development project,” said Laksmi in a written statement.
Deputy Main Director of PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama, Djen Rizal appreciated the visit from the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas team.
“We are grateful that the PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama RKEF and HPAL projects are included in the list of priority private investment projects in the Indonesian government’s work plan, through the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas”.
“For all the trust and mandate of this government, we give thanks to Allah SWT, the Almighty God, hopefully we can complete this mandate as well as possible,” he said.
Djen Rizal said, as is usual in the development of other large projects, companies really need conducive stability during the development period. Apart from being included in the List of Priority Private Investment Projects (DPPIS) and the Government Work Plan (RKP) for 2023, previously the PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama smelter project was also designated as a National Strategy Project (PSN) and National Vital Object (Obvitnas).
“We hope that by entering PT Ceria in these 3 categories, the company can gain significant benefits in supporting the smooth running of the project which is targeted for completion in early 2024,” he added.
Ceria Smelter Project
As a national private company, PT Ceria is currently racing to complete the smelter project at this location.
The PT Ceria smelter which is being built will use 2 main technologies, the Rectangular Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) technology with a capacity of 4×72 MVA, consisting of 4 production lanes to process Nickel Saprolite ore which is targeted for completion in 2024 and the High Pressure Acid Leaching ( HPAL) to process Nickel Limonite ore (lower grade nickel ore) to produce electric vehicle batteries which is targeted for completion in 2026.
The total production capacity of the RKEF nickel smelter will be able to produce around 252,000 tons of Ferronickel (FeNi) with a content of 22% Nickel or around 55,600 tons of Nickel in it.
Meanwhile, HPAL processing will have a production capacity of 308,000 tons in the form of Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP), which contains 120,000 tons of nickel metal and more than 12,500 tons of cobalt. This FeNi product can later be further processed to produce Stainless Steel and its derivative products (consuming needs).
Meanwhile, MHP is an intermediate product for further processing into nickel sulphate which is the main raw material for battery precursors (cathode material).
PT Ceria is also currently conducting a feasibility study to further process FeNi into Nickel matte and Nickel Sulphate, as well as further process MHP into Nickel Sulphate.
Next, the Nickel Sulphate from the 2 production lines will be processed into a precursor which is the main raw material for batteries (battery cathode and anode materials).
All of PT Ceria’s industrial activities apply the principles and rules of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG).
PT Ceria is committed to pursuing green production activities with the lowest possible carbon footprint.
In fact, PT Ceria will also implement a decarbonization program by participating in the carbon market by conducting carbon trading. (AT Network)
