ASIATODAY.ID, ST. PETERSBURG – Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized Indonesia’s role as a key partner for Russia in the Asia-Pacific region, during a bilateral meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Konstantinovsky Palace, St. Petersburg, on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
The meeting was held to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Russia, while also charting a strategic course for the future of their bilateral partnership.
President Putin highlighted that Indonesia–Russia relations have developed steadily, with expanding cooperation in various strategic sectors including trade, agriculture, defense, space exploration, and energy.
He affirmed Indonesia’s strategic geopolitical significance and its role as a vital dialogue partner for Russia amid today’s evolving global landscape.
“Our relations with Indonesia have been growing consistently. Trade volumes are rising, and we see great prospects in agriculture, energy, military-technical cooperation, and more. Indonesia is one of our key partners in the Asia-Pacific,” President Putin stated.
President Putin welcomed Indonesia’s growing role in the global multilateral landscape and emphasized that Indonesia would be a strategic force within BRICS, offering balance and perspective to the group’s future direction.
“Indonesia is now a full member of BRICS, and we look forward to its significant contribution to the organization’s activities,” said President Putin.
As they mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, both nations are committed to fostering a more peaceful, equitable, and balanced international order. Indonesia and Russia reaffirmed their partnership based on mutual respect, non-intervention, and multilateralism.
