ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto received a high-level delegation from Sistema Group at the Merdeka Palace, marking a significant step in advancing strategic cooperation between Indonesia and one of Russia’s largest conglomerates. The meeting followed earlier discussions held in St. Petersburg in mid-2025.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM and BPI Danatara, Rosan Roeslani, stated that the delegation included Sistema’s owner, CEO, and senior directors, accompanied by the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia.
Healthcare Cooperation as a Key Focus
Rosan emphasized that healthcare was a major topic during the meeting. Sistema Group, which operates more than 160 hospitals across Russia and is a leading producer of pharmaceutical patents and medicines, has initiated preliminary discussions with Bio Farma and Kimia Farma in Bandung.
“They have already met with Bio Farma and Kimia Farma to explore potential collaboration, and now we will accelerate the follow-up process,” Rosan noted on November 20, 2025.
The cooperation is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s healthcare ecosystem through technology transfer, research development, and potential joint pharmaceutical production.
Strong Interest in Indonesia’s Electric Vessel (EV) Industry
Sistema also expressed strong interest in developing Indonesia’s electric passenger vessel industry, particularly for ships with a capacity of 100–200 passengers. The Russian company is known as one of the major players in shipbuilding.
“Discussions have already begun, and they plan to establish a manufacturing facility here in Indonesia,” Rosan explained.
This investment is projected to boost Indonesia’s transition toward environmentally friendly maritime transportation.
Opportunities in Hospitality and Education
Sistema conveyed interest in managing potential hotel assets in Indonesia, aligning with its extensive portfolio in the hospitality sector.
There is also potential collaboration in education. Sistema plans to send Russian language instructors to Indonesian universities that offer Russian language programs.
“They will deploy language trainers to universities that teach Russian,” Rosan added.
Early-Stage Talks, Licensing Processes Underway
Despite the broad scope of interest, Rosan stressed that all areas of cooperation are still at an early stage. The government is currently focused on expediting technical licensing processes, including those involving the National Food and Drug Agency (BPOM) for health-related initiatives.
“The investment value has not been set yet, but licensing processes — including BPOM registration — are already moving forward,” he said.
The Indonesian government hopes the discussions will progress into concrete investments that significantly contribute to national development. (AT Network)
