Six OIC Member States Sign Statute of OIC Labor Centre at Doha Conference

ASIATODAY.ID, DOHA — In a significant step toward strengthening labor cooperation across the Islamic world, Ministers of Labor from six member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) officially signed the Statute of the OIC Labor Centre during the 6th Islamic Conference of Labor Ministers, held in Doha, Qatar, October 16, 2025.

The countries that signed the statute were The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Sierra Leone, the Republic of Yemen, the Lebanese Republic, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Republic of Indonesia.

With these new signatories, the total number of OIC member countries endorsing the OIC Labor Centre has now reached 32 nations, marking a strong commitment to fostering cooperation and policy alignment in the fields of labor, employment, and human resource development among OIC states.

The establishment of the OIC Labor Centre represents a cornerstone initiative within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s broader vision to enhance solidarity, promote decent work, and advance socio-economic development across its member states.

The center aims to serve as a hub for collaboration, facilitating knowledge exchange, capacity building, and innovative policy frameworks to address employment challenges in the Islamic world.

6th Islamic Conference of Labor Ministers Opens in Doha

Under the high patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, the 6th Session of the Islamic Conference of Labor Ministers officially commenced on October 16, 2025, in Doha.

Carrying the theme “Local Experiences, Global Achievements: Success Stories in the Islamic World,” the conference brought together Labor Ministers from OIC member countries, alongside representatives of international organizations, experts, academics, and civil society actors.

The high-level event aims to encourage the exchange of best practices in employment policy, skills development, social protection, and labor market integration. It also serves as a strategic platform to reinforce cooperation and promote innovative, inclusive, and sustainable labor solutions across the Islamic world.

OIC Secretary-General Highlights Skills and Education Integration

In his opening remarks, delivered on his behalf by Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, OIC Secretary-General H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha underscored the urgent need to integrate education, training, and skills development to address rising employment challenges in OIC member states.

“The future of labor in the Islamic world depends on our ability to equip young people with the skills needed for an evolving global economy,” he said.

Towards a Collaborative Future for Labor in OIC Countries

The conference continues with a series of thematic sessions, workshops, and bilateral meetings designed to strengthen partnerships and develop actionable recommendations for the future of employment across the Islamic world.

As the OIC Labor Centre gains wider support, it is expected to become a pivotal institution driving job creation, workforce innovation, and economic empowerment throughout the OIC’s 57 member states. (AT Network)
