Soekarno-Hatta Airport Customs and Excise Destroys 1 Ton of Bread from Thailand

Head of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Customs and Excise Office, Gatot Sugeng Wibowo. Special

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Customs and Excise officers together with the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency destroyed 2,564 of bread from Thailand.

The bread is the result of 33 actions taken against passenger luggage at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in February 2024.

Head of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Customs and Excise Office, Gatot Sugeng Wibowo, said that the destruction was carried out because the passenger’s luggage exceeded the limit.

As regulated in the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency Regulation Number 28 of 2023 concerning Amendments to the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency Regulation Number 27 of 2022 concerning Supervision of Importation of Drugs and Food into Indonesian Territory.

These regulations emphasize that the maximum amount of processed food carried by each airplane passenger is 5 kilograms.

“If it exceeds the limit and is not accompanied by permission from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency, then action will be taken against the excess in accordance with applicable regulations,” said Gatot in an official statement quoted on Sunday, March 10 2024.

Of the 33 actions taken, on average each passenger brought tens to hundreds of various milk buns. According to Gatot, this amount is not reasonable for personal consumption.

“There is a strong suspicion that it is for commercial purposes or entrusted services. Apart from that, the passengers also do not have a distribution permit from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency, which is a requirement for carrying these goods,” he explained.

He explained that this destruction was an important step to minimize the circulation of goods without a distribution permit from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency in the community.

First, safety, quality and nutrition are not guaranteed. Then from the economic and trade sectors, this action is expected to support the domestic food industry. In this way, domestic products are not eroded by similar imported products.

Gatot appealed to the public to always comply with applicable regulations and help support the domestic food industry. The way to do this is by buying local products whose safety has been registered and guaranteed by the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency.

“This support not only contributes to domestic economic growth, but also ensures that public consumption is safe and of high quality,” he added. (AT Network)
