Taylor Swift Sparks Trouble in Southeast Asia

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Singer Taylor Swift’s planned concert in Singapore has sparked big problems in Southeast Asia.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin accused Singapore of acting cunningly by entering into an agreement to ensure singer Taylor Swift did not perform anywhere else in Southeast Asia.

Srettha made this accusation when speaking at the iBusiness Forum 2024, Bangkok, Friday, February 16 2024.

Thavisi claims to have received leaked information from promoter AEG regarding Singapore’s agreement with Swift. The agreement states that Swift will not hold The Eras Tour concerts in other Southeast Asian countries, as quoted by Sky News.

The Thai PM also accused the Singapore government of offering $2 million-$3 million for Swift’s exclusivity in the country.

“The Singapore government is cunning,” said Srettha, quoted by Sky News.

The former property tycoon admitted that he had been wondering for a long time about the reasons why Swift did not appear in Thailand and AEG helped him understand further.

Taylor Swift’s concert in Singapore will last for six days next March. Tickets for the concert sold out in a short time.

On that occasion, Srettha said that concerts in Thailand would be much cheaper if Swift came there.

“If he goes to Thailand, it will be cheaper to hold it here, and I’m sure he will be able to attract more sponsors and tourists to Thailand,” said Srettha.

He then said, “Even if we have to subsidize at least 500 million baht, it will be very beneficial.”

If he had known about this a long time ago, Srettha would have brought Swift’s concert to Thailand.

“Concerts can generate added value for the economy,” added the PM.

In 2014, Swift plans to hold a concert at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani. However, he canceled the show, even though tickets were sold out, without giving a specific reason.

The cancellation of Swift’s concert came shortly after the coup hit Thailand in the same year. (ATN)
