ASIATODAY.ID, TERNATE – Nickel downstream products originating from Ternate, North Maluku are starting to penetrate the global market.
This is because the company PT Eternal Nickel Industry began carrying out initial exports of cathode nickel to three Asian countries, namely China, Japan and South Korea, on Wednesday, February 26 2025. This export activity was supervised directly by Ternate Customs and Excise.
“A total of 600.4 Metric Tons (MT) of Nickel Cathode were successfully exported with estimated foreign exchange earnings reaching US$ 8.9 million. This success is an important step in strengthening Indonesia’s position as one of the main countries in the global nickel industry,” said Head of the Ternate Customs and Excise Office, Jaka Riyadi in a press release received in Jakarta.
This nickel cathode product is a pure nickel product with a minimum content of 99.9%, which is produced through processing nickel ore. This product has an important role in various industrial sectors, especially in the development of battery technology and other nickel-based industries.
Through various programs and policies that support the smooth flow of goods abroad, Ternate Customs and Excise hopes to continue to encourage the growth of Indonesia’s industrial and trade sectors.
“Thus, exports of superior commodities such as nickel cathode can make a positive contribution to the national economy and increase Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market,” he added.
Jaka emphasized his party’s commitment to supporting the acceleration of exports and increasing the competitiveness of national industry.
