ASIATODAY.ID, BANDUNG – The Railway Industry in Southeast Asia is starting to apply Artificial intelligence (AI) technology to achieve maximum performance and service.
Vice President for Infrastructure Assets at PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), M. Arifudin, said that moving towards AI is an end result that relies on various data.
“In progress, of course the data must be clean, there must be no wrong data, and this is being done,” he explained at the 44th ARCEOs’ Conference forum in Bandung, Tuesday, September 3 2024.
According to Arifudin, using AI requires a formula for each part and component.
“The formula must be as realistic as possible, close to reality. After that, we combine it. With more and more data and more tested formulas, later we will make it automatically become machine learning,” he explained.
He said that machine learning does not provide decisions, but only provides a number of calculated data.
“Later, the AI will have the results of machine learning calculations, it has to take another logical one. How can machine learning decide that this must be replaced immediately, this is dangerous, this is in the next 5 years if a number or entire track or infrastructure is not replaced then “problems will arise and so on. That will become automatic,” he explained.
Vietnam also uses AI technology by implementing a camera system to monitor and warn of dangers in train-prone locations.
Meanwhile, Head of Signals and Telecommunications, Department of Electricity, Vietnam Railway College, Vietnam, Hoang Huy Tuong, explained that in 2021, his party will study and carry out trials of installing a camera system integrated with AI technology.
“This system was successfully tested and is being considered for installation in vulnerable locations on railway lines to limit risks to rail transportation operations,” he explained.
Hoang Huy Tuong mentioned a number of evaluations of the results achieved from implementing an AI-based camera system.
Firstly, the system operates stably in all weather conditions.
Second, the transmission quality is stable, the packet loss rate is 0%.
Third, determine the size of objects accurately, provide warnings for appropriate objects, and can even adjust the size of objects, distinguish between trains, moving people, and even rain.
Fourth, provide timely and accurate warnings through testing. Fifth, data storage time is more than 15 days.
Furthermore, Thailand is not left behind in utilizing AI technology. Thailand implements AI-based indoor passenger safety services.
Engineer 6, Structural Track and Signal Engineering Center, State Railways of Thailand’s Electrified Railway Management Bureau, Chairat Mooksri said the service in question can detect incidents in real-time, provide risk analysis, facial recognition analysis, suspicious object detection, and emergency alerts .
