ASIATODAY.ID, WASHINGTON – The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with the President of the United States, Joe Biden at the White House, Washington DC, Monday (13/11/2023) local time.
During the meeting, Jokowi urged Biden for the United States to take steps so that Israel implements a ceasefire in Gaza.
Jokowi’s insistence cannot be separated from Indonesia’s efforts to stop Israeli atrocities against Palestinians, especially those living in the Gaza Strip.
“Indonesia asks the United States to do more to stop atrocities in Gaza. “A ceasefire is a necessity for humanity,” said Jokowi.
In front of Biden, Jokowi said that a ceasefire must be implemented to fulfill humanity.
Because how could it not be, Israel’s aggression against Palestine has caused more than 10 thousand people to die, including children.
How will Biden answer?
Biden did not answer Jokowi’s request. Biden actually talked about Jokowi, who had just arrived at the White House.
He mentioned Jokowi who felt cold when he arrived at work.
“When we met outside when I welcomed you out of the car, we immediately discussed the very important topic of climate, the President (Jokowi) said ‘I’m cold’,” said Biden.
Apart from that, Jokowi and Biden also talked about cooperation between the two countries.
Jokowi said the US was one of the most important partners for Indonesia.
Biden then explained that the cooperation between Indonesia and the United States had escalated into a comprehensive strategic partnership, marking a new era of cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
“Included in this is increasing our cooperation on security matters,” Biden said.
Furthermore, Biden revealed that there are other issues that must also be of concern to the two countries, namely overcoming the climate crisis and building safe supply chains.
“This includes expanding our cooperation in building secure supply chains. This also includes our deeper collaboration to tackle the climate crisis.” (AT Network)
