ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) launched a rebranding of its name and logo to “UN Tourism” on January 24 2024 during the FITUR Madrid 2024 event series.
Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday, February 1 2024, welcomed the rebranding of UNWTO to UN Tourism.
“This is in line with the direction of Indonesian tourism development which is also oriented towards ‘people and planet’ with a focus on sustainability, productivity and inclusivity,” said Sandiaga.
This rebranding confirms the status of this world tourism organization as a special UN agency that handles tourism.
“This rebranding also confirms UN Tourism as a global leader in tourism development, as well as encouraging social and economic change to ensure people and planet are a priority,” said Deputy for Resources and Institutions at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Martini M. Paham.
UN Tourism has a new tagline, namely “Bringing the world closer”, which inspired the shape of the supercontinent logo in the form of a human figure in action. The change from the previous globe-shaped logo reflects the organization’s emphasis on the dynamic nature of tourism and its priority on human resources.
Currently UN Tourism has 160 member countries and more than 500 affiliate members.
UN Tourism has its headquarters located in Madrid, Spain. UN Tourism also has regional offices in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in Nara, Japan covering the Asia and Pacific region, and regional offices for the Americas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Africa in Morocco which will soon be operational.
